Meet Mama Bear.

Hey, y’all! I’m a born and bred Texan who somehow found herself living in Missouri. My background is in teaching (elementary, high school, and adult education) and communications. I’ve been to lots of cool places in the world, including Haiti where I lived with my husband for 2 years early in our marriage. In my free time, I like to hike, read, work out, garden, and travel.

To say we are bear crazy is an understatement. My nickname for my husband is Bear. Our dog’s name is Bear. We named our little piece of country property Bear Haven. And I am, of course, a Mama Bear to the sweetest little Bear Cub!

Before having my son, I was the world’s most clueless parent. The first newborn baby I remember holding was my nephew when I was EIGHTEEN. I was a baby sitter for toddlers as a teenager, but babies terrified me. I joked with my husband that he could take our kid the first two years of his life and I would take care of them after that. I was only halfway kidding. I had NO IDEA what I was getting into, but I knew I wanted a family. So after trying to conceive for ~15 months, we were blessed with a successful pregnancy, resulting in our son. While pregnant, I read all the books and blogs, listened to all the advice, and did everything I could to prepare myself for the challenge of motherhood. And yeah, it has been a challenge. So many things didn’t go as expected, regardless of how prepared I was. But I’m cherishing every moment of this journey – even the bad ones, because it means I get to spend time with my sweet Bear Cub. One of my many purposes in this life is to raise him to know Jesus, so some of what I write about will include references to my faith.

After lots of research, and let’s face it, trial and error, I am here to offer some helpful hints, tips, product reviews, etc. in the hopes that I can make the start to your parenthood journey a little smoother. If someone as clueless as me can be a good parent, so can you!
